It is unique because it not only offers a botanical garden, but it also offers a natural reserve of about 212 species of ferns and flowering plants, 20 species of birds, and 26 butterfly species.
The continued growth of the city of St. John's can be attributed to oil and gas in its oceans. The city of St. John's has been recognized as having one of the highest proportion of scientists and engineers per capita of any city below one million population in North America. Economic forecasts predict that the city would continue to be strong in its economy in the future not just because of its natural resources, but also due to its new home construction and tourism.
