Sweeper Parts Whitehorse

Sweeper Parts Whitehorse - Whitehorse is the biggest city within the Yukon Territories with a population of more than 26,000 inhabitants. The municipality is located within the southern section of the Yukon along the Alaska Highway and serves as the capital city of the territories. By area, the city of Whitehorse is ranked as the 79th biggest city within Canada. The Yukon River is surrounded by downtown Whitehorse on one side and Riverdale on the other. The name of the city is derived from the White Horse Rapids which was once near Miles Canyon before the river was dammed. The rapids resembled the mane of a white horse. The climate in Whitehorse is much milder then other northern communities due to its location within the valley. In the summer, there is about 20 hours of daylight.

The city is surrounded by mountains on three sides: Haeckel Hill to the northwest, Golden Horn to the south and Grey Mountain to the east. The construction of a hydroelectric dam during 1958 caused the White Horse Rapids to disappear under Schwatka Lake.

Gold was discovered in the Klondike in the year 1896 by Skookum Jim, Tagish Carlie and George Washington Carmack. Gold seekers began arriving via the Chilkoot Pass until people started arriving through steamship during the year 189. Unfortunately, there were some incidents where boats were lost to the rapids. Five people likewise fell victim to the rapids.

The Whitehorse Copper Belt is situated just west of Whitehorse and extends for over 30 km. Prospectors discovered copper in the first year of the gold rush. The first claim was declared by Jack McIntyre on the 6th of July, 1898, with the second claim declared by Sam McGee on the 16th of July, the year 1899. As a result, two tram lines were built. One went from the east bank of the river towards the White Horse Rapids. The other tram ran on the river's west bank.

Whitehorse's economy is largely dependent on the industry of mining. Many of these mining businesses have their corporate head office in the downtown core of the city. When the mining industry goes into a slump the effects are seen in the city too. Unemployment increases and some residents relocate to places where the work is more reliable.
