The Thornhill Town Centre is pedestrian-friendly town centre within Thornhill. Vaughan Mills is a common mall within the Greater Toronto Area.

Barley Smith Greenway, a fifteen-kilometre natural valley corridor that follows the upper West Don River through the expanding residential and business developments in the heart of Vaughan City; is among the more common trails. The Bruce Trail, amongst the 15 reserves in Canada, is the country's oldest and longest trail. It also provides the only continuous public access to the magnificent Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.

Vaughan is part of the main economic area of Greater Toronto. It has a multicultural background which helps to support the development of its communities, especially Woodbridge, Thornhill, Maple, Kleinburg, and Concord.
